Smart Car MPG

The Smart car was created to save space in parking lots. Three Smart cars would fit in a regular parking space that would only normally accommodate one regular-sized car. The name Smart is the acronym for Swatch Mercedes ART. It was created with innovative features and has a hybrid engine, which makes it appealing to the younger generation.

The biggest advantage to the Smart car is its gas mileage. It is a gasoline electric hybrid with a 1-liter 61-cubic inch engine. It may sound small, but the speed is electronically controlled. The Smart car MPG, or mile per gallon, is at approximately 37 as rated by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). This was when it came to the United States in 2008. More testing has been done to the Smart car mileage, which resulted in an MPG of 60. Germany’s Volkswagen is currently creating its own version of the Smart car and is planning to reach 100 MPG.

Another feature of the Smart car is an electronically controlled airbag that knows if a child seat has been installed. If there is a child seat, the airbags are switched off. An LED light indicates if the air bags are switched on or off.

A lot of other car companies have been trying to create a car just like the Smart car, but only Toyota’s Prius has been able to get similar MPG. The base manufacturer’s price of the Toyota Prius right now is at $21,000, while the Smart car is at $12,000-thus, obviously, the price difference makes the Smart car more affordable.

The most current Smart car has only two seats, and Mercedes Benz has offered to build a four-seat Smart car. The project never went through, though, due to the lack of interest as evidenced by comments from consumers.

A Smart Car is a vehicle which is programmed with artificial intelligence functionality. Smart Cars are programmed to unload drivers of the so-called moment-to-moment hassles of the daily commute.

The Smart Car was first conceptualized by a certain Nicolas Hayek. For pop culture savants, Hayek is the inventor of Swatch watches. Hayek sought to create a compact car that would be economical in its fuel consumption and is environment-friendly. He also wanted it small since space has fast become an issue to a car owner. The Swatch man sought a collaboration with Daimler-Benz (the company was collectively known as Micro Compact Car) which unveiled the first City Coupe in 1997. After several attempts and redesigns, Hayek insisted on a hybrid or electric engine over the traditional. When MCC was sold due to low sales, the Swatch partner pulled the plug on the partnership. Thus, Daimler-Benz assumed full ownership of the Smart division. Today, Smart is part of DaimlerChrysler’s Mercedes group.

It was sometime in the early part of 2008 when Smart Cars rolled out on US soil. Smart Cars had previously gained popularity in Europe through Mercedes Benz.

Though it can only seat two (thus, the name ForTwo), the compactness of the Smart Car has proven to be a factor in its fuel efficiency. As prices of gasoline have rocketed in recent years, consumers are becoming more aware and are more discerning in choosing cars. Thus, the term miles per gallon (MPG) has become a standard when it comes to comparing economical cars. The Smart Car gas mileage MPG is quite the envy among compact cars.

The Smart Cars MPG has become a come-on to potential buyers. When it was first introduced in the US, the Smart Car had a rating of 37 MPG. However, this has gone up to 60 MPG after more stringent test were done to the Smart Car. At its conceptual phase, the Mercedes Smart Car MPG is being projected to reach 100 MPG.
